A kohiki chawan defined by its deliberately small foot — shaped to let the graceful bell-form rise and speak without restraint.

The slip left intentionally unmixed, the clumps and bare patches becoming landscapes in themselves. Here breathes the philosophy of an artist who finds beauty in what is left undone.

A chawan of quiet dignity, shaped in the likeness of a temple bell.

This is a series to which the artist holds particular devotion — each piece guided by a philosophy of form that seeks to draw out the fullest beauty of its silhouette.

By deliberately paring the foot small, the graceful curve of the bell-form is allowed to rise and speak for itself — drawing the eye naturally along the contour of the vessel, as if tracing the outline of something sacred.

In the technique known as kohiki, the artist makes a deliberate choice — to leave the slip intentionally unmixed, resisting the uniformity that convention demands.

Where the slip gathers in clumps, where it thins and the clay beneath breathes through — these are not imperfections, but landscapes born of chance. Each one a face, each one unrepeatable.

This is the very scenery the artist intended — the quiet wonder of nature, allowed to speak on its own terms.

In the tea space, this chawan holds its presence in stillness — inviting a dialogue between the richness of its landscape and the silence of the moment.

── About This Work ──

By honoring the raw earth in its purest form, each vessel draws forth the primal vitality that lies within the clay itself. Enriched with beneficial microorganisms and shaped through a unique process of harmonic treatment, this work transcends the merely physical. It resonates with the breath of all creation, embodying the gifts of nature in their most essential form. May its presence bring that quiet power into your space.

── About the Paulownia Box and Daily Care ──

Each work is delivered in a paulownia wood presentation box. Yet the maker’s wish is this: “Do not let it sleep within the box. Bring it out, let it be seen, and feel the energy of the vessel directly.”
It is said that sake poured into these vessels takes on a new and finer taste — as if the clay itself transforms what it holds.
Display it and feel its quiet strength. Use it and discover how it changes what you taste. In the rhythm of daily life, let yourself resonate with the vessel.
